Quotes, Hooks, and Timestamps:

From Intern to Healthcare Pioneer: "When I was on a baccalaureate degree on my first course of university, I had a call from one of my peers and they were building a healthcare company which was starting to do the diagnostics from Siemens health seniors in Ukraine. They wanted to be the first distributor, and they just called me and say, do you want to go for an interview?"

"Starting a Career in Healthcare Engineering": "At that moment, I was never holding a screwdriver in my hand, but I say, I'm very fast learner and I can do that."

— Serhii [00:04:3900:04:45]

The Engineer-Sales Hybrid Role: "I understood that being an engineer is still the sales. So you need to perform, you need to provide a solution for people. You don't need to service an equipment, but you need to make them be happy basically just to get everything done and do this right."

— Serhii [00:05:1900:06:17]

Innovative Home Fertility Solutions: "We created this kind of a solution. This is a small device where you need to open it up, put a drop of saliva on the bottom side, close it, and in 42 minutes, we are able to track your evaluation. We are able to say, are you in your fertile period or not?"

— Serhii [00:10:5400:11:13]

The Rise of Saliva Testing: "Saliva testing is something that started to be so common and so, like, shared during the COVID ... when the COVID hit appeared, that saliva is one of the liquids that can be measured, like, really, very easily in comparison to others and was very common and very spread wide."

— Serhii [00:12:5900:13:09]

Discovering the Hidden Patterns in Saliva: "Somewhere in 1945, there was a discovery made by the scientists that saliva dries up and whenever the estrogen levels are high, basically during the cycle and during the ovulation, especially, the very specific patterns are formed during that moment and they look like a fern flower."

— Serhii [00:13:4600:14:04]

"Revolutionizing Fertility Awareness": "You can check your fertility levels. And fertility is something that we just only started. This is what is excited about this product and why I'm so positive about it."

— Serhii [00:20:0600:20:18]

The Next Big Thing in Health Tech: "You don't need some kind of over exaggerated privacy to do the test with one drop of saliva in today's condition."

— Serhii [00:21:1600:21:23]

"Successful Brand Awareness Campaigns": "So d two C was our first market approach, and we are very glad, like we have a very good feeling about it. So we were not targeting sales at all, we were targeting basically the awareness, the brand awareness, we were gathering the followers, gathering the leads. So that's what our campaigns are about."

— Serhii [00:23:0900:23:31]

"Prioritizing Users: So I see that our users is our top priority and this is something that we say."

Innovation Born from Necessity: How Wartime Challenges Sparked a Groundbreaking Fertility Solution

Serhii’s Journey from Civil Position to Entrepreneurship, and How Personal Challenges Led to the Birth of Ovulio's Unique Fertility Tracking Device.

The Catalyst: From Crisis to Creativity

Serhii's entrepreneurial journey took a definitive turn during wartime. Recognizing the urgency and importance of acting on innovative aspirations, Serhii transitioned from a civil position to entrepreneurship. This wasn't an easy move, but necessity, often the mother of invention, propelled him forward. His career change was not just a pivot but a leap, inspired by the pressing need to adapt and make a difference during a period of immense uncertainty in Ukraine.

Serhii's move to the U.S. with his family, driven by the conflict back home, marked a new beginning. The challenges of resettling did not hinder his progress; instead, they served as a motivation to innovate and contribute meaningfully to fields he was passionate about, especially healthcare diagnostics.

Personal Struggles as a Launchpad for Innovation

Personal struggles often lead to the most profound innovations. For Serhii and his wife, encountering fertility challenges when planning for their third child was a turning point. Conventional methods of fertility tracking proved unsatisfactory, leading Serhii to develop a novel solution born out of personal experience and frustration with existing options.

This journey culminated in the creation of a fertility tracking device that uses saliva to monitor ovulation. Unlike other methods that require blood or urine samples, this device utilizes a drop of saliva, providing results within 42 minutes. The breakthrough combines AI and digital microscopy to analyze estrogen levels and determine fertility cycles, making it both innovative and highly functional.

The COVID-19 pandemic further validated saliva-based testing as a convenient alternative to traditional methods, boosting the credibility and acceptance of such solutions.

The Science Behind the Device: Marrying Tradition with Technology

The foundation for Serhii’s fertility tracking device lies in a scientific discovery from 1945, which identified specific patterns in dried saliva correlating with estrogen levels. However, what sets Serhii’s device apart is the integration of AI to enhance pattern recognition and accuracy. This blend of traditional methods with cutting-edge AI technology resulted in a highly reliable and user-friendly product.

In collaboration with Igor, his Chief Technology Officer, Serhii developed a cost-effective digital microscope for home use. This novel device, backed by four patents, is designed to offer an intuitive experience, requiring users to simply place a drop of saliva for analysis.

Overcoming Challenges: Design, Testing, and Regulations

Creating a successful product involves overcoming numerous hurdles. For Serhii, this included extensive design iterations and feedback loops. The device underwent nearly 27 design revisions, informed by input from OB-GYNs and real-world user feedback, ensuring both accuracy and ease of use.

Further, navigating the regulatory landscape was a significant accomplishment. The device is FDA-listed and registered, meeting crucial standards for medical devices. Setting up scalable manufacturing lines was another milestone, ensuring that the product could reach a wider audience without compromising quality.

Marketing and Expansion: A New Approach to Women's Health

Effective marketing is key to the success of any innovative product. Serhii's initial strategy focused on direct-to-consumer (D2C) marketing through platforms like Google Ads, Instagram, and Facebook. These campaigns aimed more at brand awareness than immediate sales, though they still resulted in substantial leads and purchases.

Recognizing the widespread fertility challenges impacting one in six families globally, the company is exploring B2B opportunities. This includes aiding in medical procedures like Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) by tracking optimal fertility windows, with potential applications in enhancing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) success rates.

The Road Ahead: Fundraising and Vision for the Future

Currently, Ovulio is in the midst of a seed round, aiming to raise $5 million to scale sales efforts and further develop the AI aspect of their technology. The overarching goal is to solidify the device’s position as a staple lifestyle product akin to a toothbrush, that users rely on for daily health monitoring.

Users have already shown high engagement, with an average of 1.5 tests per day, confirming its potential as a transformative tool in women's health.
